About TAASNY

The Turkish American Arts Society of New York (TAASNY) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded by Ibrahim Yazici in 2007. Its primary mission is to promote Turkish culture in the United States through various art forms and to enhance the image of Turkey abroad. Under the leadership of Ibrahim Yazici, TAASNY has become a vital resource for cultural and artistic organizations interested in exploring and preserving Turkish heritage.

Our Cultural Programs

TAASNY's work spans multiple cultural initiatives, with a focus on showcasing Turkish culture through performing arts, shadow theater, and classical music concerts. Among its most celebrated programs is the Karagoz Everywhere project, which brings the traditional Turkish shadow theater to audiences in both English and Turkish. Additionally, TAASNY presents New Manhattan Sinfonietta (NMS) concerts, which promote Turkish classical music in the United States.\

New Manhattan Sinfonietta (NMS)

Founded in 2017 by Ibrahim Yazici and conducted by renowned Turkish Maestro Gurer Aykal, the New Manhattan Sinfonietta (NMS) provides a platform for Turkish musicians and Turkish composers to showcase their talents in the United States. NMS has made its mark through prestigious performances, including two major concerts at Carnegie Hall:

  • A Call for World Peace (2018) – Dedicated to Turkish-Japanese friendship.

  • Anatolian Inspirations (2020–Present) – An annual concert series blending Turkish music with Western classical traditions.

Noteworthy Events and Achievements

In addition to its ongoing concert series, NMS has expanded its influence through several significant events:

  • Hymns from Auschwitz (2022) – Performed at Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium in collaboration with the Foundation for the Advancement of Sephardic Studies and Culture.

  • 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye (2023) – Celebrated through the second series of Anatolian Inspirations, culminating in a concert on December 18, 2024, at Carnegie Hall.

  • Humanity for Peace Concert (2023) – Held at the Unitarian Church of All Souls in collaboration with the Schiller Institute Chorus.

In December 2024, NMS will conclude its celebration of Turkish culture and classical music with the final concert of the Anatolian Inspirations series at Carnegie Hall.
